2020 hasn’t been great, so it was vital that our new Guardian Weekly campaign should be based on very current reader insight – that reading the news in 2020, while vital and at times enthralling, can be overwhelming. The Guardian Weekly gives readers a measured, global perspective on current events, effectively turning confusion into clarity. We worked with illustrator Rafael Alejandro to create some beautifully chaotic illustrations which allows the calm side of the ads to feel visually serene. The campaign launched simultaneously in Dublin and Berlin with 48, 12 and 4 sheet billboards, bus-sides, fly-posters and digital OOH. It launched globally in print, display, VOD and social. We also created a one off special build in Dublin, with a giant 3D magazine and hand-torn posters.
